English Summer Farm Camp (Guadalajara)

For six to fifteen year olds, in seven to eight-day stays. During their stay, children participate in sports, outdoor and leisure activities, cooking workshops, arts & crafts, theater plays, puppet shows, wicker and loom weaving workshops…

Optionally, participants may also take English, horse riding or magic lessons, apart from the activities scheduled for each group.

During their stay at the farm camp, children are arranged according to age groups, which lets us organize different schedules. Each group has a maximum of 12 children. A lead counselor and a counselor assistant are in charge of each group. These counselors remain with groups of children aged 5 to 6 years old throughout their stay, providing added safety to the little ones. For groups of older children, lead counselors may change based on the activity to be conducted.

Optionally, participants may also take horse riding lessons, apart from the activities scheduled for each group. Horse riding is the only activity conducted in Spanish.

During their stay at the farm camp, participants are arranged according to age groups, which lets us organize different schedules. Each group has a maximum of 12 children. A lead counselor and a counselor assistant are in charge of each group.

GOALS
Inspired by our approach and the beautiful farm surroundings, our participants learn quickly to think and speak naturally in English, without relying on their mother tongue. Children live an intense English immersion experience, taking advantage of a unique opportunity to listen to native accents and pronunciations repeatedly, which results in improved listening skills. Learning obtained from topic based workshops, games or theater performances, among other activities, provides participants with new practical knowledge. Thus, the structures and vocabulary learnt become the tools to master new skills.  By encouraging creativity and collaboration and making use of all natural and tangible resources available during their stay, participants are driven by an inspiring and quick learning process. They feel great satisfaction to be able to improve significantly their listening skills and ability to speak naturally.

THE METHOD
The Krauss method uses a cognitive-communicative approach: students learn to think naturally in English; i.e. they learn new knowledge directly in this language, without relying on their mother tongue. To make this possible, students’ topics of interest and goals are identified, so they can make immediate practical use of the language being learnt. In addition to developing creativity and public speaking skills, the focus is placed on voice modulation, intonation and accent, which improve significantly in a fun environment through the creation of theater plays and singing. Vocabulary and structures come alive inside and outside the workshops, in daily camp routines, in children’s games and during breaks.
